This morning (11th July) three anarchist comrades were arrested between Milan and Lecce, and another one was raided.

The three are accused of taking part in the attack on the yard in Chiomonte in the night between 13th and 14th May 2013, the same episode following which Chiara, Mattia, Claudio and Niccolò were jailed in December 2013.

We don’t know much about the charges yet. In the press we read: damage, arson, violence on public official, possession and fabrication of explosive devices. Therefore it seems that prosecutors from Turin have been forced to rule out the charge of terrorism, following a previous sentence from the court of cassation that cancelled this charge in Chiara, Mattia, Claudio and Niccolò’s case.

Update: the arrested comrades are Francesco Sala, Lucio Alberti (from Milan) and Graziano Mazzarelli from Lecce (who had been living in Milan but was on holiday in Lecce on the day of the arrests).

On the 4th of July in the court of Roma (Italy) the second hearing of the trial against Gianluca and Adriano was held. Even though it was supposed to be with closed doors, a group of comrades managed to enter the courtroom in a moment of distraction of the security guards, in the initial bureaucratic phase of the hearing. They shouted strongly their rage against a proceeding which occurs in the complete absence of the accused. After some minutes they were jostled outside of the courtroom by the Carabineros [military police], while the judge pretended not to even notice what was going on.

We remember that the judge D’Alessandro, accepting the request from the prosecutor, decided that the trial was to be held on videoconference; both Gianluca and Adriano decided not to attend the show-trial, refusing to appear through a screen.

The prosecutor Minisci, already known by the comrades since he’s the same prosecutor in the case for the riots of 15th of October 2011 in Rome, to
reinforce the charges of 270 and 270bis (association for the purposes of terrorism) quoted also some actions that happened outside of Italy, with the aim of inventing some fictional international subversive association. He closed his speech with his request of sentence against the comrades:

– 8 years for Adriano
– 9 years for Gianluca

Next hearing will be on the 18th of July for the speech of Adriano’s defence lawyer and probably for the sentence.

Solidarity with the accused comrades!

Gianluca and Adriano, anarchists, were arrested 19 September 2013.

The operation was co-ordinated by the deputy prosecutor Giancarlo Capaldo of the anti-terrorism unit and the general commander of Mario Parente Ros, and considered the anarchists authors of a number of various kinds of damages that occurred in the province of Rome : Thirteen acts of sabotage committed against some banks, a fur shop, and branch offices of ENI and ENEL (energy companies) and the Roncigliano landfill.

The authorities impose upon them the charges of association for purposes of terrorism or subversion of the democratic order, as well as those of fire and theft, aggravated by the circumstances of competition, disfigurement and contamination of other people’s property.

From the day of their arrest, Gianluca and Adriano were inside the prison in solitary confinement : First in Alexandria and second in Ferrara, in those special sections where male and female inmates reside, whose first fault attributed to them is the ideas that they carry.

The preliminary hearing, which was held last March 26th, Gianluca and Adriano have been indicted; At the same time and place, the judge has assumed the responsibility to make the defendants participate in hearings by video-conference : the decision was motivated by a circular letter of the Department of Penitentiary Administration which provides for the use of this tool as a measure of restraint for the “most dangerous” detainees. A measure adopted following the escape of Mafia Boss Domenico Cutri which occurred during a court transfer.

In reality, the implementation of court processes for video conferencing increases the condition of isolation, demonizing and dehumanizing even more prisoners to whom the authorities are beginning to apply it.

On May 26, at the Court of Assizes in Rome there will be held the first hearing on summary judgment and the prosecutor will present the request for sentencing.

We express our solidarity with the strength and closeness to Gianluca and Adriano, aware that the story that concerns them is part of all the people who put themselves in the game, to express and practice their ideas of freedom and equality, without distinction, respect for diversity of all life.

Also that day Gianluca and Adriano will not be alone.

I receive and transmit the editorial of the Anarchist Black Cross newsletter, which will be presented on 25th April at the Bencivenga Squat in Rome. Besides spreading letters from prisoners and claims of attacks, counter-information should propose analysis, be it from the internet or on paper. I’m sorry I don’t agree with some passages of this editorial, when the comrades probably talk without having a direct experience of counter-information via web. Most importantly, there exist no virtual worlds but comrades who meet in person and organize initiatives all over the world. But I’m happy about this new Anarchist Black Cross bulletin, especially as there’s always the need of analysis on paper:

Fires of revolt continue to brighten the darkness of a world otherwise destined to annihilate the individual and lead him/her to homogenized slavery: these pages aim at stoking the fire and lighting more of them.

One of the few advantages offered by the obsessive search for global information is the revelation that even on the other side of the world there are hearts beating at the same rhythm as ours, hearts which arm skilled hands skilled in doing much more than typing a keyboard. The race to the abyss carried out by technological society is getting increasingly frantic, but fighters all over the world are keeping the pace; and even if they risk of being crashed by such a gigantic monster, they are struggling against it so as to make it fall down. Now is the time to roll up our sleeves and do more.

Armed with this tension we decided to give birth to a new Anarchist Black Cross. We are setting off along this path knowing that we live in a time when the price of choosing to spread certain ideas and practices is becoming very high, but we’ve always maintained that resignation is complicity with the system; and even if we are not among those who think that ‘a pen is as good as a rifle’, it is by now obvious to us that even within the so-called anarchist movement an intolerable homogeneity in thinking has come to light, and the resulting practices seem to be the result of a downward game; and it is therefore imperative to make other voices be heard again. We want to break the deafening silence of the last years, knowing that certain voices – including ours – haven’t been heard for too long a time.

This new Black Cross has the precise goal of becoming a gym of ideas having in common the consolidation of destructive practices: the mere use of the definition ‘direct action’ is no longer sufficient, as it seems having taken the meaning of ‘everything and the opposite of everything’… Of course we are going to give more and more space to the contributions given by the comrades who ended up in the traps of repression, without reducing ourselves to a sort of repainted red cross, but rather supporting the continuation of their trajectory of struggle in all possible ways.

The aim of our project, which will never take the colours of mere aid, is to re-launch certain ideas and correlated practices.

Starting from this premise we hope a real discussion will ensue, one which is not a miserable taking of sides but one which is so alive that it becomes conflict, because we are tired of the warm and hypocritical ‘everything is fine’.

We decided to make a publication on paper, more accessible and lasting than the speedy running of the web; but we are keeping our blog as a more rapid instrument to spread news and communiqués on action and repression. We think that the choice of a paper is not a sterile and nostalgic fetish; on the contrary we are convinced that one can’t continue to complain about the destructive damage made by technological society and ignore the fact that even we anarchists let ourselves be reduced to simple ‘users’ of an increasingly virtual world where even the struggle falls into the idiotic mechanism of being ‘more successful’ according to the number of ‘likes’ it gets…

Moreover we want to recreate a physical place where we can meet new accomplices. We expect to receive many contributions, even including criticism, and we’ll do our best to create occasions for presenting the newsletter, and finally make it possible to look into each other’s eyes again while talking to each other about what is still our more ardent desire: the destruction of the existent that annihilates us and the joy of contributing to make it collapse in debris.
