The comrades are well, without complications or physical damage. They will soon make the reasons and motives for ending the strike public. For now this is all the information we have.

]]>“After Prison” is a zine and website project aimed at sharing the voices of former earth and animal defense prisoners. This project hopes to help build an understanding of what life after prison can entail, so that individuals and communities can help create healthier environments for prisoners to return home to. It also provides an opportunity for former and current prisoners – whom often have restrictions on who they can communicate with – to connect with the experiences of others.
“It’s been 20 years since I first entered a federal prison. Fortunate for me, only six of those years were lost to that traumatizing experience, but the damage will last the rest of my life, and if I’m not careful, maybe the lives of my children too. When you’re in prison, it is difficult to say the least, to stay connected to your former “outside” world. However strong your connection might have been, those are not the type of people you are around now and it is not the world you are living in or that threatens your very own ability to live. Just as society forces us to disconnect from the violence caused by our way of life, prison forced us to disconnect from a lot of our deepest sense of self and stay there for years.”
– Rod Coronado, former earth & animal liberation prisoner, from his article, “What Your Heart Tells You Is Right.”
Many former prisoners face a raft of difficulties upon coming out of prison, such as housing & employment discrimination, dealing with trauma, and the stigma of being a felon, to name just a few. It is crucial that our communities can support our fellow activists through these often challenging times. But it is important to listen to the voices of those who have had these experiences, to learn what is appropriate support, and simply learn to listen.
The zine, featuring interviews and writings from former earth & animal defense prisoners such as Rod Coronado, Jordan Halliday, Josh Harper & Jeff Luers, is being launched today on June 11, the International Day of Solidarity with Marie Mason, Eric McDavid & all Eco-prisoners. We hope that it contributes to further discussion around supporting those currently in prison, as well as when they are released.
The zine can be read online, and downloaded from the website: afterprisonzine.org.
All former and current movement prisoners can request a hardcopy of the zine for free. Please get in touch if you, or a prisoner you are supporting, would like a copy.
This is an ongoing project. In the long term, we are hoping that the website set up for this zine will become a place where other former prisoners will be interested in contributing their stories. As the website receives more contributions, further updated editions of the zine will be produced.
]]>A few weeks have passed from he last time we updated the case of the anarchists detained on the 5th of January (5E). Here’s the update:
Once the Attorney General of the Republic couldn’t find sufficient evidence to keep the charges of terrorism and organized delinquency against the three, they were assigned to the Mexico City Attorney General and accused of property destruction and attacks on the public peace.
Their trial is now on the stage of presentation of evidence and their first hearing will be the second or third of April.
Amelie and Fallon were taken to the women’s prison of Santa Martha and Carlos to the Oriente prison.
Amelie and Fallon are in the area of general population. Carlos continues in the area of Observation and Classification.
We want to expand a bit on Carlos’ situation, explaining a bit more about the conditions that are lived by thousands of prisoners in the jails of Mexico City.
On these centers of imprisonment exists a great network of corruption and complicity between the authorities and some prisoners, who reproduce the logic of the jail by assuming the role of jailers of the rest of the prisoner. This network of corruption and complicity, not only serves to strengthen the disciplinary role of prisons, but it is also a great business, as the majority of prisoners are forced to pay for everything: visits, roll call etc. in exchange they will not be beaten by those other prisoners who enjoy the protection of the authorities, and who receive in exchange part of that money. These prisoners maintain control of practically everything in the jail.
A few days ago, we heard that Carlos had a problem with a prisoner, and had a scuffle with him, which then led to the prison guards to beat both of them up and locking them up for 9 hours in solitary confinement. Once they were released from solitary confinement, Carlos was taken from the intake area for classification. There he was required to pay so that he could skip the cleaning task known as “fajina” Our comrade decided not to pay. The “fajina” consists of cleaning a determined area but under the frame of tough exercises. During the first day of the “fajina” Carlos was once again beaten up by the prisoners, who were trying to make him buckle so that he would end up paying.
Today we know that our comrade is sick, as a result of the humidity in solitary confinement and he has back pains due to the beatings. But he remains strong and firm in his convictions.
Amelie and Fallon have not gone through similar situations.
We call to express our solidarity with the 5e detainees. We will continue updating their situation.
Freedom for Carlos, Amelie and Fallon!
Solidarity with Mario González!
A greeting to our comrade Tripa, may you never stop!

In summer 2013 members of several ABC groups discussed the necessity of introducing an International Day for Anarchist Prisoners. Given there are already established dates for Political Prisoners Rights Day or Prison Justice Day, we found it important to emphasise the stories of our comrades as well. Many imprisoned anarchists will never be acknowledged as ‘political prisoners’ by formal human-rights organisations, because their sense of social justice is strictly limited to the capitalist laws which are designed to defend the State and prevent any real social change. At the same time, even within our individual communities, we know so little about the repression that exists in other countries, to say nothing of the names and cases involving many of our incarcerated comrades.
This is why we have decided to introduce an annual Week for Anarchist Prisoners on August 23-30. We chose August 23 as a starting point, because on that very day in 1927 the Italian-American anarchists Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were executed in prison. They were convicted of murdering two men during an armed robbery at a shoe factory in South Braintree, Massachusetts, United States. Their arrest was a part of a bigger anti-radical campaign led by the American government. The State’s evidence against the two was almost totally non-existent and many people still today believe that they were punished for their strong anarchist beliefs. Given the nature and diversity of anarchist groups around the globe, we have proposed a week of common action rather than a single campaign on a specific day making easier for groups to be able to organise an event within a longer target period. Therefore, we call on everyone to spread the information about the Week for Anarchist Prisoners among other groups and communities and think about organising event(s) in your city or town. The events can vary from info-evenings, screenings and benefit concerts to solidarity and direct actions. Let your imagination run free.
Till all are free.

Anarchist Black Cross (ABC) Nijmegen is part of the worldwide ABC-network that fights and supports political, and mostly anarchist, prisoners. ABC Nijmegen supports all prisoners who according to us fight for a more social and equal world, which also includes prisoners who were found ‘guilty’ or used ‘violence’. ABC Nijmegen tries to take a small step, practically and theoretically, towards the destruction of the punishment- and prison system. For example, we organize writing evenings for prisoners on every 4th Wednesday of the month and on the 27th of November 2013 we will write to Cece and Chelsea.
In solidarity with the Transgender Day of Remembrance, a memorial on the 20th of November to trans-identified and gender variant individuals who are murdered each year due to hate, transphobia and our strict adherence to the gender binary, we will write two transgender prisoners in November. On the 5th of June 2011 Cece walked on the street with some of her LGBTIQ friends when a group of older and white people yelled racist and transphobic slogans at them. When Cece walked up to the group and made them clear that hate speech can’t be tolerated one of the person of the group smashed a glass in her face which punctured Cece’s cheek. During the fight that broke lose one of the person of the group was stabbed and died after this. The only person who got arrested because of this fight was Cece and she was charged with murder. On the 4th of June 2012, after a very long and difficult proces, Cece got sentenced for manslaughter and has to serve 41 months in jail. For more information about Cece check: supportcece.wordpress.com.
Chelsea is a 25 year old military intelligence analyst who released a collateral murder video of the murdering of unarmed civilians and journalist by a US Army helicopter in Iraq on the anti-secrecy website Wikileaks. She also released several documents which show the illegal actions of the American army in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq: she stated that these documents are some of the most important document of our contemporary history. On the 30th of July 2013 she was sentenced to an incredible 35 years in jail, one of the charges was espionage. After she was sentenced Chelsea came out as a transgender woman and now, just like Cece, she faces years of imprisonment in an environment hostile and dangerous to queer and trans people. Tonight several activists from the autonomous center in Cologne (AZ Köln), Germany, will talk about the fight for their autonomous center that was squatted in April 2010. After previous eviction threats a contract was forced in April 2011 by a variety of actions, resistance and solidarity from many people from many places. Because of this, AZ Köln could continue as a legalised, but still autonomous space. This contract was cancelled a while ago, pressured by several political parties, and will expire on the 30th of June 2013 by which the AZ Köln is threatened with eviction once again. Tonight several activists from AZ Köln will update you on the plans and actions against the eviction, like the week of action from the 28th of Juni till the 7th of July. WIR BLEIBEN ALLE!
After the info evening we will write to the last remaining prisoner who was arrested during the eviction of the Ubica. In the night of the 24th of May 2013 the Ubica, squatted for more than 21 years and one of the last autonomous spaces in Utrecht, got evicted after months of struggle and courtcases. 9 arrestees were sentenced to jail for 1 month up to 6 weeks. Besides this, the prisoners must pay damage restitutions of a total ammount of 15.000,- euro’s. Tonight we will write cards and letters to the last remaining prisoner of the Ubica and there will be more info on how to help the Ubica prisoners!

In the night of Friday the 24th of May 2013 the eviction of Ubica, an autonomous space that was squatted for 21 years in Utrecht, began. After months of courtcases and trying to fight off an eviction, seeing as the owner actually stated that he doesn’t want to do anything with the place, the court decided that same Friday that the Ubica could get evicted starting next Monday.
