The AI-based services are helping our partners at the American deportation authority ICE to monitor, arrest and deport people. It is also used to select military targets. Like Project Maven, for example, a US military project that uses AI to identify targets such as buildings, cars, and people. This statement was met with outrageous protest from Amazon workers.

Amazon Scholars are e.g. Bernhard Schölkopf heads the Department of Machine Learning at the Max Planck Institute and is considered one of the leading experts in this field in Europe. And Black is a specialist in Machine Vision and AI techniques for detecting human body movements. His company, Body Labs, was recently acquired by Amazon. Both are employed as researchers in government institutions, but also receive money from Amazon. This allows us to cleverly influence the direction of government research.
