THE COLLECTIVE

Together we are a small collective of language-loving vegetables who like fostering an exchange of ideas across languages by translating radical text. 

 

But we are also individual vegetables.

 

 

ARTICHOKE

Artichoke is a translator living in the north of England. She works with German and Dutch and is learning Irish. Her hobbies include preparing for the inevitable overthrow of capitalism, working on her allotment, being geeky about minority languages, thinking about communism, and looking at pictures of pangolins.

 

 

TURNIP

Turnip is inedible raw, mediocre in cooked food but decent in soups (with enough pepper). Turnip speaks German, English and (some) French and likes rivers. They are interested in environmental justice and how this intersects with other issues and struggles. Turnip’s favourite word is “doch” (german) for which they are committed to invent an English equivalent sometime.

 

ROMANESCO

Romanesco is an eternal optimist living in the land of cheese and chocolate. Romanesco grew up bilingual speaking Swiss German and English, she also speaks German, a little bit of French and conversational Spanish. When she has some free time Romanesco likes spending it drawing, listening to music (sometimes even attempting to play some), getting lost in fantasy worlds or binging competitive baking programs.

 

CARROT

Carrot has spent the past few years buried in the library studying German Literature and History. Now that she has finally been pulled out of the soil of academia she is ready to enjoy her new life in the sun. Carrot speaks German, Swissgerman, English and (some) French and understands Spanish reasonably well.
